Description: Lampworking is the art of shaping soft glass over a torch and is the main technique in making unique and colorful glass beads. Students will learn how to make round glass beads and different ways to embellish them. Students will then have the ability to expand their shapes by using molds and other tools to work with the glass. Students will learn about different types of glass, torches and the importance of annealing beads. We will be using Propylene gas and hothead torches and a more powerful propane/oxygen torch will be available for each student to try out for a few beads. Students will leave the class with numerous colorful glass beads ready for a jewelry project, or just general enjoyment.
Students can bring an Optivisor or other magnifier
Materials fee: $70 includes: glass rods, steel mandrels, bead release, embellishments (glass frit, foil, wire), gas
